The end of week three, 11.5 hours of training and the end of my first block (next week is a ‘rest’ week allegedly!). Tiniest amount of progress and super unimpressed…
A pretty mixed week; swimming felt strong and despite the usual ‘circus session’ the rest of the time in the water felt pretty useful and I could certainly feel the difference in strength and speed. I even felt that MAYBE I could describe what I was doing as OK freestyle technique. Brilliant progress, but given the relatively small amount of time the swim represents then not hugely valuable…
It has been ‘fresh’ in the UK this week. Let’s not mince our words, actually it was f**king Baltic! With a couple of millimetres of snow and frost causing complete anarchy. Didn’t feel inclined to venture out on two wheels so each bike session this week was a turbo session. Including a 2 hour stint today. I thought this put me in the ‘hero’ category until I spotted on Strava that some of my friends that are ‘proper’ athletes were knocking out three and four hour sessions… Clearly they have stronger legs, comfier bikes and EVEN more time on their hands than I do… Once again put in my place by literally a bunch of… No I’m not brave enough to go there lol! Seem to be producing a tad more power these days, but a long way to go before I will feel happy riding my bicycle up the side of a mountain. So get fitter, get stronger and get on with it! More time on bicycle is called for I feel.
Which just leaves the run then really. Apparently, not that I was particularly any good previously, but I have managed to regress to something like C25 kind of level. Utter c**p week in terms of running. Not one session went to plan. I got cold pretty much every time I went out and best described as ‘bumbled” about a bit in running gear. If I go a little slower I think it would be reasonable to switch my membership from British Triathlon to British Ramblers Association.
Just to make sure I was properly despondant I took it upon myself to do some research and see what sort of times I need to be hitting if I am to make my dream goal come true. At the moment there is more chance of Theresa May delivering a successful BREXIT than me hitting anything close to the times I would need…
Just when you thought “he can’t have anything else to whinge about…”, you are wrong dear reader. I managed to put on 1.5kg of weight too. Hardly surprising as I am still eating at the same level as when I was exercising twice a day every day. So there is an obvious solution!
Pretty crap week then all in all. Have moved backwards, slowed down and got fatter. Result!
But as always, for those that know me well, there is a plan 😉 Tomorrow is Monday, start of a new week and therefore the opportunity to achieve better results. You can’t change the past, but you can drag the most out of the present and make sure you make the future EXACTLY what you want it to be…
Bet you can’t wait for next Sunday’s riveting instalment 🙂 And only 24 week to Alp D’Huez…
